The National Meteorology Office (Onamet) director yesterday announced that Wednesday’s rains mean the end of the five month drought and a transition to the rainy season nationwide, and forecasts more downpours, especially in afternoon hours.
Gloria Ceballos said the heavy showers “already end the seasonal drought that appeared during the first months of the year.”
The Onamet chief also affirmed that yesterday’s precipitations will continue tomorrow Friday and the weekend, and beyond in the central mountains.
She added that there won’t be heavy rains along the coastal zones during the long weekend. “We’re already seeing the start of cloudy activity with concentration of rains and thunderstorms typical during the end of the drought. Those that we’re beginning to see in these days are what people know as the rains of May.”
